Newsman Recognized for Veterans ‘Charity’ Exposé

LAS VEGAS The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will recognize investigative reporter Ron Regan of Cleveland’s News Channel 5 with its annual Bugle Award in tribute to his contributions on behalf of our nation’s veterans.  The awards will be presented Aug. 9 by National Commander Robert T. Reynolds at the organization’s 87th National Convention at the Bally’s Hotel in Las Vegas.

“Ron Regan has for years been a guardian of truth by telling the stories of the hardships facing disabled veterans and the public policy issues that affect them,” said Commander Reynolds.  “Through his investigations, Ron has sparked change throughout the country. His work has both have inspired the citizens of our nation and our policy makers to do their best to ensure that the promises made to disabled veterans are kept.”

The DAV cited Regan’s 30 years of reporting, including an in-depth, undercover investigation into an organization collecting millions of dollars in donations supposedly meant for veterans, but 87 cents on the dollar went to line the organizers’ pockets.

“Ron’s exceptional reporting on the unethical practices of this fundraiser helps the public realize the DAV truly is one the most respected and worthwhile charities in the nation,” Commander Reynolds said.

The 1.4 million-member Disabled American Veterans, a non-profit organization founded in 1920 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1932, represents this nation’s wartime disabled veterans.  It is dedicated to a single purpose: building better lives for our nation’s disabled veterans and their families.  For more information, visit the organization’s Web site www.dav.org.
