VOLUNTEERS HONORED FOR SERVICE TO VETERANS

LAS VEGAS—George A. Beadles, Jr., of Chesterfield, Va., and Miriam A. Daley of Arlington, Mass. have been selected by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to receive the 2008 George H. Seal Memorial Trophy for extraordinary volunteerism.  The awards will be presented Aug. 9 by DAV National Commander Robert T. Reynolds at the organization’s 87th National Convention at the Bally’s Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev.

“George and Miriam are long-term members of the Voluntary Services program,” said Commander Reynolds.  “George has accumulated 16,546 hours in his 12 years as a DAV volunteer.  Miriam has 4,363 hours over 30 years.  Both have a tremendous record of support for our nation’s sick and disabled veterans.”

The prestigious awards annually honor the remarkable volunteers who serve disabled veterans and their families through the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) Program.  The awards are conferred in memory of George H. Seal, who was DAV’s Director of Membership and Voluntary Services and leading organizer and administrator of the DAV volunteer program.

“We are blessed with so many great volunteers who show their willingness to be of great service to the men and women who have sacrificed for our nation,” said Commander Reynolds.  “Both George and Miriam are very deserving recipients of the 2008 George H. Seal Memorial Trophy for their years of excellence in volunteering.”
